I am close to finishing the book Lush by Natasha Friend. Samantha, otherwise known as Sam has an alcoholic father. As a result to her father's drinking problem that leads to Sam making bad decisions. Sam has not told her friends about her dad's drinking problem but she has told A.J.K, who is a random person. Sam has told this person everything about her family. But yet she wont tell her best friends who she has known for years.
Sam's father has a drinking problem and that leads to her making bad decisions.Sam has been confessing her life to a stranger. She knows nothing about this person except that their initials are A.J.K. They pass notes through books. Sam puts a note in the same book and A.J.K. puts a note responding the Sam's note. The reason that Sam is taking to A.J.K. about her life is because of her father. He gets home late and drunk and she hears him yelling and throwing things. She doesn't want to talk to her friends because she feels that they might stop being her friend. I think that that is a bad decision. If Sam's best friends are true friends they wouldn't stop being friends with her just because her father's drinking problem, which she can't control. For example on the first letter that Sam wrote to A.J.K. she introduces herself by saying "My name is Samantha. Sam. Here is the deal. First of all, my parents are a total mess. My dad is what you would call a big drinker." Sam says this to a person who could end up blackmailing her.
Another reason on why Sam's father's drinking problem leads to her making bad decision is because now Sam doesn't want to trust him any more. Sam not wanting to trust him hurts his feelings. For example when one day she sees her dad playing hockey with her ex best friend, Charlie Parker. And she goes over to where they are playing and she yells out to him "What are you? Drunk?" In front of Charlie and all his friends that were playing hockey. Then when her father goes over to her and shows her the milk that he was supposed to be buying and she didn't see, she feels very bad. Her dad starts talking to her and tearing up saying that he meant what he said, when he said he was going to stop. And then Sam starts to cry because she feels bad for yelling at him.
In conclusion Sam gets a bit paranoid sometimes. She makes bad decisions because of her father's drinking problem. When I read the part about when she was yelling at her dad I felt like crying, because if he was my dad I would keep supporting him no matter how many times he has messed up.
i really like the details :)
