The Bar Code Tattoo Good vs. Evil

I recently just finished the book The Bar Code Tattoo. It is a science fiction book. The main character Kayla, is anti bar code tattoo. Her father kills himself and her mother eventually dies, when trying to burn of the tattoo. After Kayla is accused of killing her mother and burning her house down. In the book, you are allowed to get a tattoo when you turn 17, but when it becomes against the law to not have the tattoo, Kayla and everyone else who is against the tattoo go into hiding. Through out reading the book I would go back and forth on whether or not the bar code tattoo is good or bad.

One reason on why the bar code tattoo could be good is because it is supposed to make life easier. For example the bar code tattoo includes your license so if you get stopped by the police while driving all you have to do is show him the tattoo and the police scans it and you can just leave. Another example on why the tattoo makes life easier is because your medical information is on the tattoo, so if you get into an accident all you have to do is scan the tattoo to see your information. The barcode tattoo also include your identification and banking numbers.

Although there are a few good things abut the bar code tattoo, there are also bad things. One reason that the tattoo is bad is that things can go wrong with it. For example Kayla's best friend Amber has two parents that have the tattoo. Later on in the book neither of Amber's parent's tattoos work. So then the thorn family is has to go live with family in another part of the country. Another reason why the tattoo is bad is because various people have tried to kill themselves because the don't want to have the tattoo any more. For example Kayla's dad killed himself. He had been depressed for months and had stop going to work, then he couldn't stand having the tattoo any longer so he killed himself. Another example is Kayla's mother, she tried to burn off her tattoo, and that ended up killing herself and burning down their house.

In conclusion the bar code tattoo is bad, but has some good and convenient things about it. One good thing about the tattoo is that it makes life easier. But one bad thing is that things can go wrong with the tattoo.
